Cobalt doesn’t view projects as transactions, but as opportunities to nurture collaborative partnerships. As we work together on a project, we learn about your business and strive to develop a mutually beneficial relationship.

Our Approach

At Cobalt, we’re big fans of science history and, in particular, the history of technologies we now take for granted. Almost every invention and great discovery was the culmination of many scientists working together, not individuals toiling in isolation. That’s what Isaac Newton meant when he said, “If I have seen further, it’s because I have stood on the shoulders of giants.”

Creative and communications professionals require the same level of collaboration to succeed. In fact, we can’t see what we need to see unless we stand on your shoulders. You are experts in the strategy of your organization; we are experts in message- and meaning-making. To develop effective communications specific to your goals and strategies, we must collaborate. There is no other way. We cannot toil alone and expect to happen upon brilliance by accident. Brilliance is less about inspiration and much more about perspiration — rolling up our sleeves and working closely with you to achieve a shared success.

Collaboration Principles

Arrange face-to-face meetings when possible. We want to be respectful of your time, but we also know that in-person meetings are necessary to tackle challenging issues or review complex information.

Rely on collaborative technology when necessary. When we can’t meet in person, we can still collaborate and share information using Cobalt-maintained online tools and apps.

Ask questions constantly. We ask a lot of questions — because we’re curious by nature and because questions act like pickaxes, digging out large chunks of useful information.

Listen earnestly. Don’t you hate when interviewers never let their subjects speak? You won’t have the same problem when you work with us.

Work iteratively. We like to work in smaller, incremental steps so you can respond early in the process and we can make necessary course adjustments.

Call on partners to fill knowledge gaps. We can’t know everything, so we work closely with other experts in our industry to provide expertise we don’t have in-house.
